WARSAW, Poland

Warsaw is a perfect mix of diverse architecture, beautiful outdoor spaces, cultural treasures, great food, and nightlife. Rather than being centered on an old market square, modern-day Warsaw is spread across a broad area and includes an eye-catching range of architecture: restored baroque, Gothic, neoclassical and Renaissance in the Old and New Towns; gems of the post-WWII socialist-realist period, and contemporary beauties like the POLIN Museum. As the royal capital for several centuries, Warsaw is blessed with the beautiful palace and parklands. Not to be missed is a stroll beside the Vistula River, a contemporary promenade dotted with waterside bars and cafes. Warsaw has endured the worst that history could throw at it, including near destruction at the end of WWII. Much has been rebuilt and the fragments that survived are now preserved in a superb selection of museums and cultural storehouses.

HELSINKI, Finland

Helsinki has its own design scene, a hub of architectural innovations, it is a city of flavors, famous for its natural environments Finland is famed for its streamlined, functional, stylish design. In the 20th century, pioneers such as Alvar and Aino Aalto cemented its reputation, and the capital remains the country’s creative hub. Helsinki’s design scene is one of the most electrifying in the world today, Boutiques, workshops and galleries filled with glassware, lighting, textiles, and innovative homewares proliferate in the Design District in Punavuori, home to Helsinki’s Design Museum. Taking its cues from the design scene, architecture in Helsinki is flourishing. Finnish Flavours Locally sourced, seasonal, sustainably farmed and foraged ingredients might be red-hot worldwide trends today, but in Finland, they have long been a way of life. Finnish flavors can be found all over Helsinki, from a historic kauppahalli (covered market) to venerable restaurants, creative bistros, and Michelin-starred gastronomy labs. While it’s a culture-packed urban center, Helsinki is surrounded by the sublime natural environment that’s easily reached from every part of the city.

TALLIN, Estonia

No longer the plaything of greater powers – Danish, Swedish, Polish, German and Soviet – Tallinn is now a proud European capital with an allure all of its own. Throw in delightful food and vibrant modern culture and it’s no wonder Tallinn seems in danger of being loved to death, especially after a few cruise ships dock. But it’s one of those blessed places that seems to cope with all the attention. Despite the boom of 21st-century development, Tallinn safeguards the fairy-tale charms of its Unesco-listed Old Town – one of Europe’s most complete walled cities. Some examples of exuberant post-Soviet development aside, the city clearly realizes it’s better to be classy than brassy.
